Orientation Course

The orientation course is the second part of the integration course: 100 lessons on the legal system, history, culture and values in Germany. It ends with the Life in Germany test, which together with the DTZ leads to the integration course certificate.

What do you learn in the orientation course?

The orientation course is the second part of the integration course and has 100 lessons. It covers three areas: politics in a democracy, history and responsibility, and people and society, from the Basic Law and elections through German history to family, education and religious diversity.

Lessons are in German and follow on from the language course, usually after the B1 section.

Test and certificate

The course ends with the Life in Germany test: 33 questions in 60 minutes. With 15 correct answers you have passed the orientation course; with 17 the test also counts as the citizenship test.

If you also pass the German Test for Immigrants at B1, you receive the integration course certificate.

Attendance and cost

The orientation course is part of the integration course; you take it with the same provider under the same admission. Self-payers contribute the same amount per lesson as in the language course, and for many participants it is free. Below are cities where language schools offer orientation and integration courses.
